Puzzles are cool again! And relaxing! And entertaining! (A recent survey by BuffaloGames.com)

The people have spoken, and they’ve got jigsaw puzzles on the brain! A recent survey by BuffaloGames.com shows the traditional cardboard amusement activity has increased since the pandemic began in 2020, with no signs of slowing down.

Puzzle lovers from the United States, Canada, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom responded to an early June survey by the longtime puzzle and games manufacturer to share their insights into the hobby.

Perhaps most interesting is that an overwhelming majority of respondents, 95 percent, said they have purchased more puzzles since covid began two years ago. Of this number, more than one-quarter (26 percent) own 100 puzzles or more; 21 percent own 51-100 puzzles.

People who assemble puzzles like to be challenged. Nearly 70 percent of respondents said they have completed puzzles with a minimum of 1000 pieces (39 percent) or 2000 pieces (30 percent). More than half (55 percent) responded that they have completed 100+ puzzles in their lifetime.

Jigsaw puzzling appears to be a solitary activity, with 73 percent of people replying that they prefer to work on puzzles alone with 22 percent saying they assemble puzzles as a family activity. The majority of respondents (77 percent) also listen to music or watch TV while putting together puzzles.

Whether to pass the time on a boring, rainy Sunday, to help soothe anxiety, create a healthy diversion for young kids, or become the evening entertainment at the vacation house this summer, one thing is sure: People are picking puzzles!

The majority of the more than 2,800 survey respondents are overwhelmingly female and aged 55+, though overall, puzzle respondents’ ages range from 18-65+.
