Great Jigsaw Puzzles from Marvel
Marvel Comics is a candy-colored universe of intriguing characters, compelling storylines, and memorable rivalries. It could very well be that jigsaw puzzles are a good way to get your Marvel fix.
To that end, we have a few suggestions for the five most Marvel-ous ways to add a little Marvel to your day with a little jigsaw puzzling.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Did you know that when Stan Lee created Spider-Man, he specifically stuck a hyphen in his name to differentiate him from DC’s Superman?
Many people don’t know that little grammarlicious detail, but more than one superfan probably knows this: in the ‘80s, Marvel had the opportunity to buy DC but turned it down. At the time, execs believed DC’s characters just weren’t compelling enough to merit the purchase.
It’s a crazy world. Many of the scenes in the average Spider-Man 500-piece puzzle are suitably similar. The web-slinger can usually be seen going about his business above the heads of astonished onlookers, perhaps in an urban intersection and likely with the Daily Planet building in the background.
And like many 500-piece jigsaw puzzles, the challenge is in the details. Endless windows, exactly the same in the scene’s highrises and other buildings, will require you to raise the bar on your puzzling skills.
And sometimes, there are little Easter eggs, such as a billboard in the background featuring Captain America with the tagline ENLIST TODAY. That kind of detail really puts you inside the world of Spider-Man.
Overall, a Spider-Man jigsaw puzzle is a great way to spend an afternoon with a few people you love doing something fun and colorful.
Challenging Jigsaw Puzzles from Marvel
If you fancy a challenge, try a Marvel-ous 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle. Many puzzle images feature tons of repeating shapes with a recurring color palette guaranteed to up the ante on the difficulty front. Like many 1500-piece puzzles, these won’t be done in a day.
Grab a puzzle for web-slinger fans, and while you’re solving it with friends and family, indulge in a little Marvel trivia.
For instance, most Spider-Man fans know there’s an alternate universe web-slinger called Spider-Ham, whose alter ego is Peter Porker. For others, though, the very idea of Spider-Ham has so much cheese behind it that it only requires a couple of slices of bread to be complete.
We’ll let you decide on the finer points of the limits of anthropomorphic metaphors and whether Mr. Porker enjoys bacon with his eggs, but suffice it to say that in the most challenging Marvel jigsaw puzzles, you’ll have hours of fun!
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and More
Star-Lord, Groot, Drax, and friends make for one eclectic team-up. But they’re not the only Marvel characters featured on the many 500-piece puzzles that are available. If you have a little help from your friends, any 500-piece puzzle ought to be an easy afternoon boggler that brings the whole family together.
Fans of the Guardians gang may know that Baby Groot’s dance in the movie poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took two years to conceptualize and execute on film. Marvel worked with many artists and experts to pull it off, and to great effect. It was one of the most talked-about scenes in the movie.
Thor Jigsaw Puzzles
Some Marvel jigsaw puzzles go old-school for true fans of the Marvel brand. And for those fans, here’s a little-known nugget of Thorian knowledge: There is a frog with the exact same powers as Thor. He goes by Throg, and although this amphibian’s mythical hammer is also called Mjolnir, Throg’s is much smaller.
A 500-piece puzzle can be solved in a day or two, depending on how much help you have (and indeed how helpful that “help” is), making this category a great choice for a weekend lark into all things puzzling.
Marvel’s Black Panther Puzzles
The Black Panther is one of the coolest characters in the Marvel pantheon, and it’s due at least in part to the fact that Wakanda is such a brilliant concept. How cool is it, for instance, that Wakanda gave the Marvel world vibranium, the impenetrably durable metal from which Captain America’s shield was forged?
But there’s more for the superfan. In fact, the language the Wakandans speak is based on a real language. Xhosa, pronounced as a click for the xh and “OH-sah” for the rest of the word, is an indigenous tribal language of southern Africa.
Wakanda is situated in basically the same area where Xhosa is spoken in the real world, which is a neat detail.
The Black Panther himself, usually flanked by his allies, has fans all over the world, not just in southern Africa. Puzzling is a great way to spend a Saturday (or a few) with the family, and when you’re done, you can preserve it with Puzzle Presto Puzzle Saver and hang it on the wall as a memento of time well spent having fun.
Marvel-ous Jigsaw Puzzles for Fun Aplenty
The Marvel universe is chock full of lore and obscure facts that are so much fun! While integrating your Marvel knowledge with Marvel jigsaw puzzling, your friends and family will enjoy spending time and accomplishing something together.
Here’s one more obscure tidbit: did you know that Tony Stark owns Area 51? It’s true, at least in the Marvel universe.
Here’s another, from the real world (sort of): did you know that Spider-Man once teamed up in print with the third season cast of Saturday Night Live? That means he actually worked with guys like Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, and John Belushi.
And did you know that Loki predates Thor’s appearance in Marvel comics by 13 years? Thor didn’t show up until 1962. It’s curious that the number of years by which Loki beat him to print was 13. How fitting.
It goes to show you that, if you do a little digging, trivia can be really rather fascinating. It may even be almost as fascinating as solving a jigsaw puzzle. There’s so much more to explore in the Marvel theme of jigsaw puzzles. Every jigsaw puzzle manufactured by Buffalo Games is designed to bring hours of enjoyment. So have fun!
